How many hours of service can I get?

For Private pay clients, the number of service hours are determined based on your needs and personal preferences.

If you are utilizing your health insurance provider and Medicaid, the amount of service hours will be determined after completing a Registered Nurse (RN) assessment. This evaluation helps ensure you receive the level of care that best meets your needs.

How long are your services approved for?

When paying privately for home care, your services can last as long as you need them, whether it is a few days to support your return home after a hospitalization or more consistent, prolonged care.

Managed Long-Term Care (MLTC) services are designed for long-term care (typically more than 6 months).

Services may end if:

  • You choose to stop services
  • Required assessments with your health insurance have not been completed
  • Medicaid recertification is not completed

We help remind and guide clients through these requirements to maintain uninterrupted care.

Who will provide my care?

Your care will be provided by one of CHCA’s trained Home Health Aides (HHAs) or Personal Care Aides (PCAs), who are dedicated to delivering compassionate, high-quality support.

How are your caregivers trained?

CHCA caregivers complete comprehensive, state-approved training programs that meet all New York State Department of Health (DOH) requirements—and go beyond them.

Training hours by certification include:

  • Home Health Aide (HHA): 112–119 hours
  • Personal Care Aide (PCA): 42 hours
  • Advanced Competency Demonstration (ACD): 28 hours
  • CNA to HHA Bridge: 21 hours
  • Competency Evaluation: 14 hours

Our training is led by licensed Registered Nurses (RNs) and experienced instructors with deep expertise in home care. What sets CHCA apart is our hands-on, skills-based approach, which prepares caregivers for real-life situations, not just classroom learning.

Caregivers are trained in areas that matter most to clients, including:

  • Personal care and daily living assistance
  • Patient safety and infection control
  • Proper use of home care equipment
  • Communication and interpersonal skills

This combination of clinical knowledge and real-world preparation ensures our caregivers are not only certified but also confident, compassionate, and ready to deliver high-quality care in a variety of home settings. Ongoing support and mentorship further reinforce their ability to provide exceptional service.
